The future of customer experience in travel, tourism and hospitality: European expert panel

Tourism Marketers

A look at the impact of Covid-19 on the travel, tourism and hospitality industry in terms of how it has influenced customer expectations and the technology trends we can expect in 2021.

The global pandemic of 2020 triggered an unprecedented health, social and economic emergency. One of the most affected sectors during the crises was the travel, tourism and hospitality industry with virus containment protocols shutting down borders and bringing the industry close to a complete standstill.

As of October 2020, there were 900 million fewer international tourist arrivals compared to the same period in 2019, resulting in a US$935bn loss globally.

  • Europe has seen a 68 per cent decrease in arrivals from January to October 2020.
  • The UNWTO states that this decline in nearly 70 per cent of international tourism has set the industry back by 30 years.

Now, in early 2021, the Covid-19 threat remains at large, but there is hope – we are seeing the roll out of a Covid-19 vaccine and borders tentatively opening up. However, what permanent impact has the pandemic had on the industry and how people travel?

Join us for a conversation with our panel of experts as we discuss:

  • The current status of the industry, including factors that are impacting a consumer’s decision to travel.
  • The impact of CX and technology on travel, tourism and hospitality in the new normal.
  • Guidelines to improve CX and help your business thrive in 2021.

Tourism Decision Makers

Over the past year we have seen Europe’s tourism sector reach the depths of despair, yet there is an unmistakable willingness among consumers, travel suppliers and governments to see good arise from this crisis. We all want to see a model for tourism that genuinely works to restore life and livelihoods through regeneration, rather than rumbling onwards in a way that does ‘less bad’.

So, what does ‘good’ look like and what do Europe’s tourism decision makers need to know in order to put destinations on the path to a regenerative recovery?

TOPOSOPHY will partner with the European Travel Commission for a 60 minute webinar that sets out the basics of Regenerative Tourism; from Strategy to Practice, together with expert practitioners in this field. We look forward to welcoming:

• Ioannis Pappas, Director, Mediterranean, Global Sustainable Tourism Council
• Patrik Gustavsson, CEO, the Amager Bakke Foundation, Denmark

How to build the perfect hotel concept?

Hotel Managers

Learn about the seven essential elements of a hotel concept.

About this Event

Technology, changing consumer behaviour and deregulation are challenging hospitality at its core. What’s more, these trends have been accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis, and are forcing hoteliers to review the fundamentals of their value proposition. How can you offer more than “a place to sleep and eat”? How to unlock new areas of growth? And how to promote a coherent and compelling guest experience?

Often, the answer to these questions is putting in place an effective hotel concept that will not only justify a price premium, but also attract talented staff to join an exciting project and give you free publicity.

But what exactly is a hotel concept? How do you create one? And how to implement it?

Drawing on our successful Hotel Concept Handbook – resulting from a collaboration with Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne – we will share with you inspiration and practical advice to (re)invent your hotel. From a Japanese hotel that doubles as a fashion label to a Parisian Café that produces its own music, join us to discover how these concepts blur the lines between hospitality, media and retail.

Whether your objective is to reinvent your hotel from top to bottom or simply to broaden your knowledge, this session will give you ideas and motivation to build or improve your hotel concept.

Session schedule

16h30: Introduction

16h35: The seven elements of a great hotel concept

17h05: Plenary discussion and closing

Who is it for?

Marketing managers
