If you’re tired of being at the mercy of OTAs and tour operators, this is one presentation you don’t want to miss!
Alexander Galarraga, lead strategist at Booking Success will bring to light why most hotels fail at generating profitable direct bookings while an “elite few” are driving most bookings directly.
Learn how to identify obstacles in your strategy that are holding you back and generate higher ADR bookings at a fraction of the cost of OTA Commissions.
This webinar, which is a must-attend for independent hotel owners, GMs, marketing and revenue managers who are not satisfied with the status quo and wish to be empowered with the knowledge and tools to create more interest and demand for their hotel without needing to be mostly reliant on third parties to do so.
Alexander will explain what roadblocks most hotels face when trying to generate more direct, undiscounted and uncommissioned bookings and how successful hotels have overcome these roadblocks.
We’ll introduce hotel case studies and shifts these hotels made and the impact this had on their results.
Topics:
– How to overcome loss of revenue from discounting and commissions
– How to shift from a Guts-driven to data-driven strategy
– The 4 Key Performance Indicators you should be monitoring regularly
– The 10 Pillars that drive (or slow down) your direct bookings

Near, the global leader in privacy-led Data Intelligence, and Spatial.ai, a real-time customer segmentation company, have teamed up for a live webinar on Tuesday, October 19 at 11am PT | 2pm ET on how to identify the personalities and preferences of visitors – and how to activate those insights via digital marketing.
Join us to learn how to apply this data to:

ABOUT
In 2020, Covid-19 brought the world to a halt and kept the travel business grounded. In 2021, green shoots of hope have sprouted as a result of vaccine rollouts and reduced restrictions. As we approach 2022, travel companies want to know if their business will return to pre-pandemic levels, and when that happens, if the landscape will look more like “back to normal” or a “new normal”.
Research shows that travelers are eager with anticipation for their next trip, and they have strong intentions to book in the coming months. Unfortunately, they’re mired in a sea of conflicting travel restrictions and messaging about public health risks, sometimes even within their own borders, which leaves them with continued discomfort around making definitive plans.
To discover where travelers truly are today, Travelzoo, in partnership with Skift, conducted a global survey on traveler preferences and behavior over the last 18 months. What behaviors have truly changed? What’s driving those changes? Are they temporary or permanent?
In this upcoming webinar, Travelzoo and Accor will join Skift to explore the survey’s findings and help travel brands across every industry sector understand what they can do today to inspire potential customers, turn traveler dreams into reality, and kickstart the drive to revive their business.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
- How consumer sentiment is changing as the pandemic evolves
- What’s important to travelers as they dream about and plan their next vacation
- Key strategies to increase conversions amidst continued uncertainty
- How the travel industry can learn from new behaviors and apply these lessons to their business today

About
Each year, the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) produces an Industry Snapshot Report, a compilation of data resulting from a survey of adventure travel industry operators on topics such as popular destinations, activities, and industry business practices. It provides those working within industry critical industry benchmarks, and those outside the industry with perspective on the health, outlook, and characteristics of this dynamic environment. 2020 was a particularly challenging year for the tourism industry, and this data serves as one way to track COVID-19’s true effects and adventure travel’s recovery. Join Heather Kelly, ATTA’s Sr. Research Manager, to dig deeper into this report and to see what is coming next for adventure tourism worldwide.
This webinar will be recorded and shared with those who register. Registration is required.
Presenter: Heather Kelly, Senior Manager of Research, ATTA
Heather joined the ATTA in December 2019. She brings many years of tourism and data experience to her role as Senior Manager of Research. Heather grew up in Ithaca, NY and still resides nearby, which is a great home base for exploring the world.
After working for a hospitality research firm and in a hotel sales office, Heather went on to spend 3.5 years as Marketing Manager for the Aruba Convention Bureau for North America, and one year as a consultant with Discover the Palm Beaches, Florida. The Caribbean is still one of her favorite places to visit, and she has been to 15 islands and counting. A PADI-certified diver and boat lover, Heather’s favorite adventure activities involve the water (although she is horrible at windsurfing).
Heather also spent 7 years with Hotel Link Solutions, part of the WHL Group, working with small hotels in developing tourism economies to build their online presence. Her biggest projects were in the South Pacific islands. She has worked on consulting projects with the European Travel Commission, the Discover England Fund, and others. She also spent a summer teaching in Germany and has traveled solo through parts of Europe and Asia.
A true lover of learning, Heather has earned a BS in Communications from Ithaca College, an MBA in Marketing from Suffolk University, and an MS from The Hotel School at Cornell University. She has taught undergraduate and graduate-level marketing at four universities. Her new role with the ATTA gives her plenty of opportunities to continue incorporating her love of knowledge with her passion for the tourism industry.

On Tuesday 21 September 2021, from 14:00 to 17:00 CET the Policy Learning Platform will host an on-line thematic workshop on the topic of ‘competitive and sustainable tourism sector’.
By joining this event you will learn how to promote your regions thanks to tourism development strategies, branding and multi-stakeholder involvement. You will also learn how to create a diversified and sustainable tourism offer based on the valorisation of the natural and cultural heritage in your regions.
Why is competitive and sustainable tourism so important?
Astrid Severin, co-host and Thematic Expert for Environment and Resource Efficiency, underlines that: “Many policymakers are currently looking for sustainable solutions that disperse tourism flows, bring growth and employment to less known areas and untap the potential of Europe’s rich natural and cultural heritage. Interreg Europe can feature some successful concepts to inspire these much needed policy changes.”
What is the event format?
In the course of an afternoon, we will bring to you three consecutive 45-minute sessions structured as follows:
- Session I
You will get inspired by the successful tourism development strategy adopted by the Latvian City of Valmiera, a good practice of the Destination SMEs project. You will also discover how a local tourism strategy based on the revitalisation of the industrial heritage in the Swedish region Västra Götaland led to a policy change in the Andalusian Province of Granada thanks to the CHRISTA project.
- Session II
You will have the opportunity to join an active debate around Interreg Europe good practices in two parallel working groups, one on ‘Cooperation for success: joint branding and multi-stakeholder involvement programmes’, one on ‘Off the beaten track: Developing new geographically distributed and off-season tourism offers’.
- Session III
You will discover the outcome of the discussion in the working groups and learn from the European Commission about EU funding for competitive and sustainable tourism for the 2021-2027 programming period.
More information about the programme can be found in the draft event agenda.
Online policy helpdesk
At the end of the online thematic workshop, starting at 17:00, our Thematic Experts Luc Schmerber, Mart Veliste, Astrid Severin and Marco Citelli will be available for an online policy helpdesk. Make sure you book your 10’ spot!
What to expect from the event?
Insights into strategies to make competitive and sustainable tourism a staple of regional recovery out of the Covid-19 crisis. Knowledge of the challenges faced by peer regions, identification of potential solutions, exchange with other workshop participants, collaboration and networking with experts.
